Approaching color analytically
Can you make it more relaxing?
While at Fell Swoop, I helped redesign an online bill payment website for a client whose brand identity was still under development. Because the brand colors were still in flux, each design round also served as an opportunity to present different color studies as options.
The client’s team felt strongly about color but didn’t always know how to describe their preferences in design terms. To show the calm, spa-like feeling they were hoping to create, the clients chose a number of reference illustrations that used palettes they found relaxing.
Using those illustrations, I reskinned a number of the project comps to match both the exact palettes we were offered and a refined palette, based on the original, that created a more coherent color scheme. Although the client ultimately chose the first, unchanged option, they were pleased with the choices before them and the knowledge that their specific recommendations had been heard.
